Roberta "Big Grandma" Smith
Roberta “Big Grandma” Jean Smith 77 of Harrison entered Heaven’s gates on February 25, 2018. Roberta was born in Montrose Township, Michigan on October 11, 1940, to Edward and Agnes Cooper and was adopted to Alfred and Lillian Smith. She lived in Montrose and New Lothrop, Michigan areas until she moved to Harrison in 2002.
Roberta loved cats and dogs, planting and maintaining her floral gardens, fall colors and the brisk fall air. Big Grandma enjoyed cooking for her family, and will be fondly remembered for her world famous potato salad and fried potatoes. Roberta was known to have several nick names; Big Grandma, mom and Aunt Wedols. Roberta's family and friends meant everything to her and she loved them with her whole heart.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter and son in law, Lilly and Ronald Allen of Harrison, two grandsons; Bobbie and Ronnie Allen of Harrison, one granddaughter; Ashley Waits and husband Herb of Saginaw, three great-granddaughters; Lexie Allen, Makenna Allen and Rylinn Allen, one sister; Mary McKone of Chesaning, Michigan, two nieces; Cherrie Kennedy and husband Phil of Flint, Michigan, Joy Bollinger and husband Don of Hernando, Mississippi, one nephew; Al and wife Julie Reed of New Lothrop, four great-nephews; Phillip and wife Jennifer, Josiah, Andrew and Alfred, five great-nieces; Sarah and husband Steven, Patti and husband Adrian, Becky and husband Jim, Rebekah and Alexandria. Big Grandma is preceded in death by her parents, one grandson; Jerrad Allen, two sisters; Virginia Crump and Louise Reed, three brothers; Wayne Cooper, Walter Cooper and Darwin Cooper, three brothers in law; Everette Crump, Doug Reed and Dallas McKone, and a very special friend, Carol Canfield.
Celebration of Life services honoring Roberta will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with Rev. Don Bollinger officiating. Family and friends are encouraged to gather on Saturday, March 3, 2018from 10:00 a.m. until time of service to share in stories and memories, luncheon to immediately follow at United Brethren Church, Harrison. Memorial gifts in memory of Roberta may be considered to the Smith Family, in care of Mrs. Lillian Allen.
