Thomas “Tom” Clayton Ray, 84, of Clare, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Thomas was born May 5, 1934 in Turkey Creek, Kentucky, the son of John and Maxie (Cline) Ray. Tom moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1953 from Kentucky to begin his career working at General Motors Corporation and Saginaw Steering Gear, where he worked until his retirement. Thomas had resided in Clare ever since.
Mr. Ray was a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Harrison Moose Lodge # 2235 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Tom’s pastimes included hunting, fishing, and traveling to various auction sites to help with food concessions. Tom also enjoyed transporting many of his Amish friends and forging relationships with them. He loved his horses, Capri and Chaz, making many memories with them throughout the years.
Surviving Mr. Ray is his long-time companion, Ellen “Ingrid” Anderson of Clare, one son, Mike Ray of Detroit, Michigan, three grandchildren; Shawn (Liesje) O’Farrell, Jason (Amy) O’Farrell and Xavier Ray, four great-grandchildren; Annika and Annelies O’Farrell, Charlie and Lillian O’Farrell, one sister, Sandy Cline-Sullivan of Abingdon, Virginia, one brother, Don Ray of Turkey Creek, Kentucky, Ellen’s children; Albert Weisheim, Ernest Weisheim, Naomi Miller, and their children; Bart, Joshua, and Brittney Weisheim, as well as several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Susan O’Farrell (daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth), and one brother, Jim Burgett.
Funeral services celebrating Tom’s life will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Immediately following services, family and friends are encouraged to join for a time of sharing stories and light refreshments at the Harrison City Park, Pavilion D., 905 West Spruce Street, Harrison.
