Michael “Mike” Durward Pergl 73 of Harrison, passed away Friday, February 15, 2018 at Autumnwood of McBain. Michael was born March 23, 1945 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Frank A. Pergl and Jeanne N. (Haworth) Pergl. Mike graduated from Jackson High School, Jackson, Michigan in 1963 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. On December 20th, 1968 in Harrison, Michael was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Cosgrove. Michael graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree
Mr. Pergl had been a longtime resident of Harrison, moving from Jackson in 1972. Mike was a member of the American Legion Post 404-Harrison. Mike spent a majority of his life as an over the road truck driver, starting his career as an owner-operator and then to drive for Ashcraft’s Markets and Dean’s Foods of Evart, Michigan, where he concluded his career. Mike’s favorite hobbies were golfing, hunting, fishing and traveling. Mike was an avid University of Michigan Wolverine fan.
Surviving Mike is his loving wife of fifty years, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pergl of Harrison, his daughter, Melisa Murray and husband Chad of Manistee, Michigan, his son, Michael “Mike” Pergl of Harrison, three grandchildren; Caitlin Jensen, Taylor Murray and James Murray, two brothers in law; Duncan Redman and wife Chunjie of Seattle, Washington and Mike Cosgrove and wife Cindy of Harrison, many nieces, nephews, several cousins and his K-9 companion, Scout. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William “Bill” Pergl, his mother and father in law, Phyllis and Harlow Cosgrove, a half-sister, Beverly and two brothers in law; Richard Cosgrove and Raymond Cosgrove.
A Celebration of Life service for Mike will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison, with Pastor Wendy Kindel officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of remembrance on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the American Legion Post 404 Military Honors Team. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Frost Township, Michigan. Memorial gifts in memory of Mike, may be considered to: Clare County Senior Services, 225 West Main Street, Harrison, Michigan 48625 or American Legion Post 404, 1267 M-61, Harrison, Michigan 48625. I remember so many evenings when your family cane over to play cards. I remember Mike always making jokes. Mary? Your family, as well as the Riske family had a huge impact on myself and my siblings. Great memories that one could never forget. We are thinking of you all as you go thru this difficult time. The whole Gleason family loves you all. ❤️

I'm so sorry to hear of Mikes passing. I served with Mike in the USAF for several years, and came to appreciate his wonderful sense of humor. I have always been aware of his distinct manor of speaking. The first time I met Mike I was surprised to learn that he was from Michigan, I thought for sure that he was a southern boy. I will miss him, but we all have wonderful memories....Ron Groom
