Don Cowles, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15th, 2019 at Horizon Senior Living with his family by his side.

Don was born the 10th of 11 children to Ralph and Maude (Davis) on January 5th, 1926 at home in Clare County.
Don worked for 20 years as a finisher at Holly Carburetor. When they closed, he worked for Colt 45 for several years. Don also worked at Johnston Elevator for 15 years, where he was known as “Shorty.” Upon retirement, Don spent his winters in Lakeland, FL. When he was back in Michigan for the summers, he worked for Capital Equipment in Clare hauling equipment around the state until he was 90 years old.
Don enjoyed raising pigs, hunting, fishing, camping, working, and he had an art for telling a story. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he served with joy and sang in the choir.
At the present time, Don’s family includes his children; Connie (Jim) Rowe, Gloria Jones, and Bunny (John) Punches. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Don was often referred to as “Grampa Piggy” and “Papa.” His surviving sibling is Phyllis Ellison. Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Wilson, his parents, and nine siblings.
A memorial service in honor of Don’s life will take place on Thursday, December 19th at 1:00 at Liberty Baptist Church 6007 W. Mannsiding Rd Lake, MI 48632. Memorial Contributions can be made to Liberty Baptist Church in his memory.
