Ota Chancy “Putt” Root 80 of rural Harrison passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. Ota was born July 6, 1940 at the family farm in Hatton Township, Clare County, Michigan, the son of Ira Erastus Root and Christine Grace (Mitchell) Root. Ota graduated from Harrison High School in 1958. During his years at HHS, he earned many metals and trophy’s for cross country and track events. Putt was united in marriage to Ms. Patty Ann Cox on March 30, 1985 in Harrison.

Mr. Root worked as a tractor mechanic for Dulls Farm Service of Clare and Goshen Farm and Lawn of Goshen, Indiana for many years. Throughout his years of employment, he earned many mechanic certificates. Putt loved farming, gardening, deer hunting, boxing, softball and spending the summers on his pontoon with family.
Surviving Mr. Root is his loving wife of thirty-five years, Mrs. Patty Ann Root of rural Harrison, one daughter, Deatta Ruth Root-Pyle of Harrison, two grandchildren; Adam Charles Shipman of Harrison and Mason Chancy Root-Pyle also of Harrison, one great-granddaughter, Raelynn Kay Shipman of Harrison, many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Mr. Root was preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings; Irene Vlier, Stan Root and Fay Ann Root.
Celebration of Life services honoring Mr. Root will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with Pastor Mike Bradley officiating. Family and friends may gather on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Memorial gifts in memory of Ota may be considered to the Root family, in care of: Patty Ann Root.
