Obituary

Geraldine Pado 80 of Harrison passed away at her home on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Geraldine was born October 21, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Edward Aloysious Smith and Marion Violet (Hocholeck) Smith. Geraldine graduated from Girls Catholic Central High School, Detroit in 1958. Geraldine was united in marriage to Mr. Richard Joseph Pado Sr. on May 13, 1961 in Detroit. Mr. Pado preceded Geraldine on August 30, 2015 after fifty-four years of marriage.
Geraldine grew up in Detroit as the youngest of three girls in a devout Catholic family. Her father passed away when she was 13 leaving her widowed mother the task of raising her, and also served as Geraldine’s inspiration to succeed in life. She attended a Catholic school where she developed and established friendships that lasted the rest of her life. For her personal aspiration and to give her children a lifestyle that she was unable to have growing up, she joined the workforce in the retail business field. From there she was able to obtain a position with the United States Army as a civilian servant where she was able to progress through her career from a secretary in a security office until she reached the respected and accomplished position of Executive Administrative Secretary to the Director of Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center. Geraldine was someone with a generous heart. She and her husband purchased a house on Little Long Lake in Harrison as a place where the family could come together and share the fruits of their labor. Upon the passing of her husband, she moved to Harrison permanently where she continued making new friends and became an active member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Pado are her three sons; Richard J. Pado Jr. and wife Suzan of Lowell, Michigan, David J. Pado and wife Annette of Shelby Township, Michigan and Jeffrey K. Pado and wife Wendy of Macomb, Michigan, one daughter, Laure Pado of Oakland County, Michigan, ten grandchildren; Christina Teichman, Kelly (Nathan) Hopp, Kenneth Teichman, Michael Teichman, Benjamin Pado, Kara Pado, Katelyn Pado, Kelsey Pado, Cole Pado and Samantha Pado, one sister, Virginia Fisher of Dexter, Michigan, many nieces, nephews and extended family members and her beloved dog, Zoey. This news really caught me off guard. Always enjoyed working with Geri. She was one in a million. We worked hard and always helped one another out when needed. We always made time for fun. After retirement, the ladies from TACOM still met for lunch and always looked forward to a Christmas celebration at our co-worker’s house. Geri will truly be missed. God Bless.

Geri was a very good friend. We became acquainted while working at US Army TACOM in Warren, MI. We worked well together
and became friends along the way. Along with our work we also planned many promotion, retirement and birthday parties for the staff, both civilian and military, in the front offices. We and the other ladies said we should start a company called "Parties R Us". It was always alot of fun. She hosted Christmas parties for the ladies we worked with in her home in Warren. She enjoyed entertaining. I also visited her cottage in Harrison a few years ago. We have kept in touch by phone and email since she moved to Harrison. Recently she invited me to come and spend a weekend. With the COVID I had held off and so I had not gone yet. I am sorry I did not make it up there again. We exchanged birthday cards every year including this year, since our birthdays are only 2 days apart in October. In the past we would celebrate with cake at work or go out to lunch. She was always smiling and had a positive attitude. She loved her family and always enjoyed the times they spent together at their cottage in Harrison.
I will miss my dear friend. She was a very special lady. (Peggy Eberhard)
