On Sunday, February 7, 2021, Dale Robert Brockway passed away at the age of 83.

Dale was born December 17, 1937 in Pontiac, MI to Howard and Ila (Van Blarcum) Brockway. Growing up, Dale lived and worked on his family’s farm milking cows and bailing hay. Not long after graduating high school, his family business became Snow Snake, where he worked every winter on improving the mountain with his mom and dad. There he met Carolyn Faye Shroyer and they were married on June 3, 1961. Together they enjoyed 57 years, building up the Snow Snake legacy. They raised two children, Jann and Jeff.

Snow Snake was Dale’s life. He spent countless hours there between snow making, grooming the hill, and chatting with customers. Dale quite literally made mountains out of mole hills. Under his supervision, they expanded the hill and added two new tow ropes and a chair lift. He was an entrepreneur committed to providing enjoyment and entertainment to Central Michigan. In 1994, Dale and Carolyn, expanded to create the golf course. Even into Dale’s retirement, he could be spotted picking up range balls, mowing the grass, and fixing up odds and ends.

Dale and Carolyn split their retirement years between summers in Harrison, Michigan and winters in Mission, Texas. He enjoyed golfing, collecting and restoring old tractors, and driving across the country with Carolyn in his RV. Dale was known for his unmatched sense of humor and wit, and never passed on an opportunity to spend time with his friends and family.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn. The couple passed away on Super Bowl Sunday, two years apart. Dale is survived by his daughter Jann and her husband John Cleary, their three daughters, Kalysta (Michael) Leary, Therese (Mick) Haley, and Madison, great grandchildren Ila and Michael; his son, Jeff and his sons, Zack and Jase, his finance, Jessica Dalton and her two children, Abby and Hunter.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Pardee Cancer Fund

Memorial Services will be in May at Snow Snake. To share an online memory or condolence with Dale’s family, please visit: Arrangements and care of Mr. Brockway is entrusted with Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison (989)539-7810.
