Our Heritage
The Stocking Funeral Home, Inc., in Harrison had it's inception in 1965 when Frank E. Coker purchased the Fanning Funeral Home on Beech Street in Harrison. Mr. Coker began construction of the new funeral home on Oak Street in the summer of 1965.
Gary Stocking was hired to manage Coker's Harrison Chapel on September 1, 1965. Gary became a stockholder in the Coker Funeral Homes in 1974 and purchased the Harrison branch in 1981, re-naming it Coker Stocking Funeral Home. Gary's wife, Sharon (Butcher) Stocking joined the firm in 1981 as secretary. A corporation, Stocking Funeral Home, Inc. was formed in 1984.
Stacy S. Stocking, Gary and Sharon's son, has been part of the funeral home his entire life and became a licensed funeral director in 1990. Gary and Sharon retired in 2000. Today, Stacy has assumed management and ownership of the firm.
There have been two major additions, the last one being in 1996-1997, adding a large chapel with a seating capacity of 130, a gathering room with fireplace and fountain, two redecorated restrooms and adding two ADA approved restrooms. The funeral home is accessible, all on one level, and has ample paved parking.
