Our Heritage

Stocking Funeral Home, now Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service, first started serving families when Frank E. Coker purchased the Fanning Funeral Home on Beech Street in Harrison. Mr. Coker relocated the new funeral home to Oak Street, beginning construction in the summer of 1965.

Gary Stocking became manager of Coker's Harrison Chapel on September 1, 1965. He purchased the Harrison chapel in 1981, renaming it Coker Stocking Funeral Home. Gary's wife, Sharon (Butcher) Stocking joined the firm in 1981 as secretary. In 1984, the funeral home was renamed Stocking Funeral Home.

Stocking Funeral Home has always been family-owned and operated. Stacy S. Stocking, Gary and Sharon's son, has been part of the funeral home his entire life and became a licensed funeral director in 1990. After Gary and Sharon retired in 2000, Stacy assumed management and ownership of the firm. Most recently in June of 2022, Stacy sold the funeral home to licensed funeral director Benjamin Clark and is now serving the community as Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel & Cremation Service. Benjamin shares the same values and vision as the Stocking family. Together with Stacy Stocking, they will continue to serve families with dignity and respect.

The funeral home has been built and designed with your family’s comfort and convenience in mind. The building is handicap accessible and has ample paved parking. Chapel spaces can easily accommodate a large gathering or a smaller, more private gathering. Family can also comfortably greet their family and friends in the gathering room with conversational seating and fireplace. Plans are being made to add a separate reception center area, allowing families to enjoy snacks and refreshments during visitation or a luncheon following services.
